Neurofeedback for ADHD is one of the most heavily studied applications. We lead with the most recent, largest, and most rigorous meta-analysis rather than the most favorable older study.

This large meta-analysis found no meaningful overall improvement in ADHD symptoms when outcomes were rated by probably blinded observers. A small statistically significant effect appeared when analyses were restricted to established standard neurofeedback protocols, and a small improvement was reported for processing speed.
Interpretation: The findings do not support presenting neurofeedback as a proven stand-alone ADHD treatment. They also suggest that protocol selection and specific outcomes may matter and remain areas for further study.

Sustained effects of neurofeedback in ADHD: a systematic review and meta-analysis

This earlier review examined randomized studies with follow-up assessments two to twelve months after training. Parent-rated improvements were reported to persist at follow-up, particularly relative to non-active control conditions.
Limitation: These findings should be interpreted alongside newer analyses using stricter blinded outcomes and active comparison conditions.

Personalized at-home neurofeedback compared to long-acting methylphenidate in children with ADHD: NEWROFEED, a European randomized noninferiority trial

This multicenter trial tested personalized neurofeedback delivered largely at home in children with ADHD. Symptoms improved over time in both groups, but at-home neurofeedback did not demonstrate noninferiority to optimized long-acting methylphenidate and was less effective as a stand-alone intervention.
Why we include it: This study is particularly relevant because it demonstrates that structured at-home neurofeedback has been studied in a randomized clinical setting, while also providing an important reminder not to claim equivalence with medication. It describes that study's own protocol and equipment — not Mindspace's program.
